Making time to slow down

Finding time for ourselves is hard enough, but throw in a couple of kids and it may seem impossible.  But it is so important, especially as women and caregivers, to nourish and replenish ourselves because we spend so much time giving and doing for others.  Time out for yourself can be anything from getting on your yoga mat every day for ten minutes, or taking five minutes to really enjoy a good cup of coffee or tea mindfully, or even spending one minute taking deep breaths with your eyes closed.  We don’t need hours to press the reset button, but often just a few thoughtful minutes.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of having a few of my good friends (also mothers of young kids) join me on my yoga and singing bowl retreat.  It took a bit of cajoling but once they were there,  it was exactly what they needed; a chance to relax, unwind, and spend some much needed alone time and time bonding with other women.  The hardest part often is giving ourselves permission to take time for ourselves.   But we all operate better when we are running on a full tank, instead of fumes.  So take out your calendars, planners, and to-do lists and block out 10-minutes for yourself. Every Day.

Hope for the future, a call to action

These past few days have been a grab bag of emotions; fear, anger, anxiousness, joy, exhilaration, and above all else, hope.  As a yoga teacher, I should probably stay far away from anything “political” but I feel like I can’t ignore that we are feeling many emotions right now.  This is a time of change
